Reflect on ‘Our Lady of Kibeho and Saints’

  • Visit the Vincent Atrium to view this stunning painting by Amber Knorr, which highlights the faith and contributions of Black Catholics. It features Our Lady of Kibeho alongside saints and servants of God who have shaped the Church’s history.

Learn about those Black Catholic greats and saints

Explore the lives of influential Black Catholics.

  • Saint Charles Lwanga – Ugandan martyr who died for his faith in 1886.
  • Saint Josephine Bakhita – Former Sudanese slave who became a religious sister in Italy.
  • Saint Martin de Porres – Peruvian Dominican lay brother who served the poor.
  • Venerable Father Augustus Tolton – The first Black Catholic priest in the U.S.
  • Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman – Advocate for African American Catholic culture.
  • Servant of God Mother Mary Lange – Founder of the first Black religious congregation in the U.S.

  • Marla Godette’s Talk  “Celebrating Black History” – February 18 at 7 p.m. in Driscoll Auditorium. Hosted by the Black Student Union, this event features Marla Godette sharing her life story and the importance of celebrating Black history. A social with snacks follows.

Join an Off-Campus Event

  • Michiana African Americans for Life Breakfast – February 15, 10-11:30 a.m. at the Kroc Center. Register here.
