The Moreau College Initiative (MCI) is proud to announce that its film, “Regenerate Indiana: Land and People Made Whole,” has been chosen to be showcased at the 2024 Heartland Film Festival. The film will screen in-person on Saturday, July 27 at 2:30 PM at Newfields as part of the festival’s Spotlight: Indiana Humanities Unearthed Cohort program, followed by a live Q&A session with the film’s production team.
The film is directed by Trace Engbrecht of Parable Films and produced by Cam Stillson. The production and distribution of this film is supported by a generous grant from Indiana Humanities. This film showcases the profound perspectives of incarcerated college students at Moreau College, an undergraduate degree program of Holy Cross College situated within Westville Correctional Facility. Through their coursework and stewardship of the MCI garden, the students explore the profound interconnectedness between land and people, illustrating how this relationship can be mutually beneficial and healing.
Justus Ghormley, Director of Moreau College remarks, “The film gives our students a chance to show society who they really are: thoughtful, creative, compelling citizens ready to contribute to the common good.”
Moreau College is made possible through an academic collaboration between Holy Cross College and the University of Notre Dame, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Correction. The initiative enables incarcerated students at Westville Correctional Facility to pursue AA and BA degrees from Holy Cross College, supported by a matching endowment from the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation.
