Cross College’s men’s tennis team achieved a historic victory on Feb. 15, by defeating the University of Chicago, the No. 1 team in the country and defending NCAA Division III National Champions, 4-3.

This monumental 4-3 win marks the first time the Saints have ever defeated the Maroons, breaking an 0-7 record in the all-time series.

The Saints faced a formidable challenge against a powerhouse Chicago but rose to the occasion with determination and skill. After falling behind in doubles play, the team made a remarkable comeback in singles matches. Perry Gregg, Luca McManus, Oscar Wai, and Calvin Golmei all delivered crucial victories, with Golmei clinching the decisive point to secure the upset.

This victory capped off an impressive weekend for Holy Cross, who also swept Bethel University 4-0 on Friday, February 14. The back-to-back wins highlight the team’s dedication and growth as they continue their season.
