NOTRE DAME, IN (September 9, 2011) -Brother John Rhodes Paige, C.S.C. will be installed as the 4th president of Holy Cross College in a public ceremony being held Friday, September 23. The investiture represents the highlight of several planned inaugural events taking place; the Holy Cross community, friends, and guests are also invited to attend receptions, an academic honors induction, and a symposium celebrating the 170th anniversary of the Brothers of Holy Cross in the United States.

Friday's inaugural events will begin with a special Mass being held at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel on the campus of Holy Cross.  The Most Reverend Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades will preside.

The installation ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the College's Pfeil Center. Following the installation ceremony, the public will have the chance to meet President Brother John Paige at a reception on the Pfeil Center grounds.

Immediately prior to coming to Holy Cross College, Brother John served six years as the Vicar and First General Assistant of the Congregation of Holy Cross at the Congregation's General Administration in Rome, Italy.  Brother Paige is a 1968 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in physics.  He earned his M.A.L.S. degree in mathematics from Wesleyan University in 1976, an M.A. degree in applied theology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkley, California in 1983, and a Ph.D. in education policy and leadership from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1998.  Brother John Paige has a long, distinguished career in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, academic dean, principal, board member, president/CEO, and college professor.  He was elected Holy Cross fourth president by a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees, and took office January 1, 2011, following retirement of Brother Richard Gilman, C.S.C. (1992 - 2010).

Since he began serving as Holy Cross president, Brother John has kept a busy schedule that has included meeting alumni and students across the United States, connecting with community businesses, organizations, and leaders, such as St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, for relationship building, playing host to the presidents of area Independent Colleges of Indiana member institutions, and providing remarks at various speaking engagements throughout the area.

Holy Cross College is a Catholic, four-year, co-educational, liberal arts institution founded in 1966 by the Brothers of Holy Cross.  With a 13:1 faculty/student ratio, students find personal attention from professors who care about their success. The college focuses on the holistic development of the mind, body, and spirit.  Baccalaureate students must complete four requirements before graduation-a professional internship to develop their real-world qualifications, service experiences to develop their compassion, an international experience to expand their horizons, and a senior Capstone presentation to sum up their learning outcomes and attest to a panel of faculty and business leaders that they are ready for life after college. With a campus adjoining St. Mary's College and the University of Notre Dame, Holy Cross College provides the best of both worlds-a close-knit, small college atmosphere with the resources and social opportunities of a large university.
