Professor Burzycki Honored with Excellence in Teaching Award

Professor Burzycki Honored with Excellence in Teaching Award

Thomas Burzycki, an assistant professor and Chair of the Holy Cross College Business Major has been awarded the college's annual Excellence in Teaching Award. The award is given to the faculty member who draws the most votes from students, faculty and staff.

Upon hearing of the award Burzycki commented, "I am humbled and incredibly appreciative to receive this wonderful award. I want to thank the entire Holy Cross Family."

Thomas Burzycki began teaching at Holy Cross five years ago after retiring from a 35-year career as a business executive. His last position was president of an international musical instrument manufacturing conglomerate that was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. As a chief executive, he is experienced in mergers, acquisitions, divestures, strategic planning, public stock and registered debt offerings, financing, and the daily rigors of running companies.

Other awards Burzycki has received during his career include the Indiana Governor's Sagamore of the Wabash Outstanding Businessman's Award, the World Trade Club International Business Person of the Year Award, and the Colonel Samuel Rosenbaum Memorial Award of the National Guild of Community Schools for the Arts Business Person.

Burzycki has served on many national boards of directors and advisory counsels' including the Fischoff Chamber Music Council, the National Council of Music Importers and Exporters as the President, the Indiana University Graduate School of International Business, the Indiana University Music Business School, the State of New York Music Business School, the Interlochen Music Schools, the Music Teacher's National Association, Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation as a founding member and board member, the American Music Conference president and board member, the National Association of Band Instrument Manufacturers president and board member, the National Association of Music Merchants board member. Locally, he has served as president of the Homeowner's Association, on a Catholic school board as president and board member, as president and board member of the South Bend Youth Symphony. He was a board of directors member of three privately owned firms, a Rotary International Member, and a 3rd degree level Knight of Columbus.

Burzycki is a Certified Public Accountant, holds an MBA from DePaul University in Finance, and a BA in accounting from Loyola University. He will be recognized publicly at the Honors Convocation on March 26th at 7:00 PM in the Driscoll Auditorium.
