2013 Parent/Alumni Weekend!
Honoring the past as they look to the future, Holy Cross College administrators, parents, alumni, and friends of the college will celebrate the school's Catholic identity and its growth over the years from a two-year school into a four-year college.
Parent-Alumni Weekend 2013 takes place April 5-6 and begins Friday with a noon Mass at Saint Joseph's Chapel, followed by a luncheon at the Pfeil Athletic Center with Holy Cross College professors.
Academic excellence will be celebrated Friday evening at the Driscoll Auditorium during the Honors Convocation. Students earning a 3.5 semester GPA, or better, will be recognized for their achievement, along with the Outstanding Service Award recipient and Holy Cross Saints Awards recipients.
The highlight of the weekend is the President's Ave Crux Dinner on Saturday evening. Mass will be celebrated at 5pm in Saint Joseph's chapel. Cocktails begin at 6:30pm and the dinner will begin at 7pm. President Brother John R. Paige, C.S.C., will present the "Fidelis Award" to four contributors of Holy Cross College, honoring "lives lived in faith."
Jack and Margaret Berges, John and Mary Anne Hardesty, Lucille and Richard McKenna and Brother James Leik, C.S.C., are this year's Fidelis honorees. The recipients all have strong ties to Holy Cross College, some from the earliest days of the school's founding and others whose children have experienced the benefits of a Holy Cross College education.
"The dedication and commitment of the administration, faculty, and staff was so readily apparent, that we were inspired to share in the mission of Holy Cross College," Richard and Lucile McKenna agree. The couple has been married over 41 years and has two grown sons. They began their involvement with Holy Cross College when their younger son enrolled in 1997 and later graduated in 1999. Both sons are also graduates of the University of Notre Dame.
Brother James Leik, C.S.C., began his ministry at Holy Cross College in 1967. He worked with Brother John Driscoll as co-developer of the College as Treasurer, Interim President, Instructor in business, and many other varied positions. He is presently full time College Archivist.
Jack Berges, named a Holy Cross College trustee in 2004, held a variety of positions with General Electric Co. from 1950-1985, was a former advisory committee member for Congresswoman Lynn Martin of Illinois, and holds the distinction of being an honorary member of the British Empire.
John Hardesty also serves as a Holy Cross College trustee, named to the Board in 2002. John and his wife, Mary Anne, have been supporters of Holy Cross College since 1996, when their son Johnny enrolled and went on to earn his associate's degree.
A variety of other activities are scheduled throughout the Holy Cross Parent-Alumni Weekend, including Academic Honors Convocation, the Holy Cross Hoedown, trivia night, Breakfast with the Brothers, a tailgate, a Holy Cross lacrosse match, and time to explore the surrounding South Bend area.

Holy Cross College is a Catholic, four-year, co-educational, liberal arts institution founded in 1966 by the Brothers of Holy Cross. With a 13:1 faculty/student ratio, students find personal attention from professors who care about their success and development in mind, body, and spirit. The Four Pillars of the core curriculum include a professional internship, service to others, a global perspective experience, and a senior Capstone presentation which summarizes and synthesizes each student's learning. Located in Notre Dame, Indiana, Holy Cross College provides the best of both worlds: a close-knit, small college atmosphere with the resources and social opportunities of a large university.
